Samata Angel
Samata (born Samata Abudulai) on 23 January 1984 in Cambridge, England) is an English author, speaker and fashion designer currently based in London, England. As of July 2013 her book, The Fashion Designer's Resource Book, was published by Bloomsbury and has been praised by The Design Trust, ELLE and InStyle.
Samata is an autodidact fashion designer. Her womenswear clothing label has been worn by the likes of Dawn Angeliqué Richard and Jennifer Lopez with press to date including Vogue, Company, Cosmopolitan Magazine, Fashion United, Look Magazine (UK), Pride Magazine, ITN, London Lite, Fashion Africa, Red Magazine and The Daily Telegraph.
On 13 February 2011 was announced as the winner of Suzy Amis Cameron's Red Carpet Green Dress competition an international competition, benefiting MUSE School CA and MUSE Global, to create a dress made of sustainable materials.Samata was flown to Los Angeles to walk the "red" (green) carpet at the Global Green pre-Oscar party on February 23 in Hollywood alongside Suzy Amis Cameron and Hollywood producer James Cameron. In March 2011 Samata Angel was listed as one of Red Magazine's "One to Watch: Top 20 women under the age of 30",. On 28 March 2011 Samata Angel was invited to the launch of StartUp Britain where she discussed her fashion industry journey and addressed the Prime Minister David Cameron, George Osbourne, Peter Jones (entrepreneur), Doug Richard, Vince Cable and an audience of MPs, entrepreneurs and media.
Fashion debut
Samata went on to set up her own brand and came under the public eye when she made history by becoming the first British female to show during the Nolcha Fashion Week in New York[6] and she has since gone on to become the Red Carpet Green Dress 2011 Best Dress Winner.
In 2007 Samata became the first British female to show during the Nolcha Fashion Week. Since 2007 Samata has worked with numerous organisations including the Arts Council of Great Britain[8] and the London College of Fashion speaking to fashion design students and mentoring in the fields on fashion marketing, business and fashion enterprise.
In September 2009 fashion entrepreneur Samata Angel created looks for the ITV News team for the "Newsroom's Got Talent" fundraiser, exclusively dressing the likes of Romilly Weeks, Steve Scott (journalist) and Katie Derham for an exclusive Grease performance.
Fashion journalism
During 2007, Samata was also made Fashion Editor of The Talent Magazine, a glossy set to promote emerging talent. For the front cover of the first issue of the magazine Samata styled the front cover photo shoot, using British actor Nicholas Hoult and 14-year-old model Jessica Pain. Samata has since written articles on fashion trends, industry news and sustainability for The Guardian, Cision,Vogue UK and InStyle.
